Will Bravado inch closer to clinching the ESL African Championship group stage top spot?

esports

Without exaggeration, there are only a handful of matches left in the first group stage games for the ESL African Championship. If teams haven't had their eye on the end game by now, it is probably too late.

For Bravado, it has been a slow and steady race - struggling a bit in the early stages but quickly regained their momentum to power through the competition.

Right now, the team is second on the leaderboard - but five points behind leaders Energy eSports. That is exactly why the team's match tonight against VexxedPhoenix is hugely important.

Bravado has to win no matter what in order to remain in contention for the top spot.

Side note: tonight's match between Bravado and Vexxed will not be streamed.

On paper it should be an easy game for Bravado, but VexxedPhoenix (who hasn't won any matches to date) could pull something out of their hat to cause a bit of an upset.

Assuming Bravado wins tonight, that means that the team will be two points behind rivals and current leaders Energy eSports. That will bring us to probably the most contented game in the entire ESL African Championship - a Bravado vs Energy match where the winner takes all.

That match will take on Friday 30 June. If Bravado continue on their current trajectory and manage to beat Energy in their match, they will sneak past Energy with one point to claim the group stage win.

If they lose in tonight's match, the race for the top spot will be over. It is important to note that the top four teams from the group stages move on to the next phase, but that everybody who competed in the group games will get some form of payout - depending on where they finished.

The finals of the South African leg of the CS:GO group stages will take place on 1 July, and will determine who moves into the group stages for the second season, and eventually compete against the North African teams.

The top four South African teams will progress to season two's group stages, while the bottom four teams will enter into a relegation phase against teams from the second South African open qualifier. From there, the top eight teams will compete in the group stages for the second season.
