Asian Games Day 6 preview: Manu Bhaker eyes redemption; Rohan Bopanna/Divij Sharan eye gold

India have medal hopes in kabaddi, shooting, tennis, and perhaps even weightlifting - on Friday. The big event in the morning is the men's doubles final featuring Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan, while shooters Heena Sidhu and Manu Bhaker are also expected to finish on the podium in women's 10m air pistol.

Manu looks for finals redemption

Manu Bhaker will look to put the disappointment of a finals meltdown in the women's 25m pistol event behind, when she joins Heena Sidhu in the women's 10m air pistol event. Amit Kumar and Harjinder Singh will spearhead India's campaign in the 300m standard rifle event.

Bopanna/Sharan eye doubles gold

Expectations were low from the Indian tennis contingent this time around, with the absence of Sania Mirza from the team, and the late withdrawal of Leander Paes. However, the men's doubles title has been a sure-shot gold in recent years -- India have four golds between 1994 and 2010, with Paes having featured in three of those. Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan have a chance of making it five. For Sharan, it would be an improvement on bronze from Incheon, and for Bopanna, either way it will be a welcome first medal in the Games at the ripe agoe of 38.

Rakhi Halder eyes weightlifting medal

In January this year, 25-year-old Rakhi Halder broke the national weightlifting record for women's 63kg category, established by Karnam Malleswari a year before her medal at the 2000 Olympics. She's seen as India's brightest prospect at these Games, with a chance to medal for India's modest lifting contingent, with only Vikas Thakur yet to compete on Saturday.

A modicum of normalcy in hockey

After a record 26-0 win against Hong Kong on Wednesday, India can expect a little more resistance from Japan, who are ranked 16th in the world, the fifth highest in Asia. It should still be an easy victory for India, but coach Harendra Singh will hope Japan can stretch the Indian team a bit more than Indonesia and Hong Kong have been able to.
