Nigeria Basketball terminate Sam Vincent's contract

The Nigeria Basketball Federation, through an official letter signed by the federation's president, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, have announced the immediate sacking of the national women's team coach, Sam Vincent.

The federation cited numerous conflicting commitments on the part of Vincent which have continued to affect his role in the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup-bound team.

"The NBBF has been monitoring the situation in Atlanta closely and we are not satisfied with a lot of things," the letter read.

"You left the National Women's Team camp in Atlanta since Friday, 27 July, 2018 without permission from anybody and you have continuously remained absent.

"Be informed that you are hereby relieved of your appointment as our National Women's coach, to allow you to concentrate on your other activities."

The latest development could prove an ill-timed setback for D'Tigress, defending FIBA Women's AfroBasket champions, who are billed to make their second appearance at the World Championships in Tenerife, Spain in September, where Nigeria are drawn in Group B alongside Australia, Turkey and Argentina.

The NBBF have announced that assistant coach Peter Ahmedu will temporarily be in-charge of the team, assisted by Sola Shomala until an appointment is made to fill the void.
