Tobi Amusan and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi were the big winners for Nigeria on day two of the African Athletics Championships in Asaba, on a day which saw athletes from the host nation record mixed performances.
Amusan won Nigeria's first gold medal of the championship, coasting home in a time of 12.86s to emerge winner in the women's 100m hurdles final.
The triumph marked a double celebration in 2018 for the 21-year-old, who won the gold medal in her event at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
Enekwechi won gold in the men's shot put, while Temilola Ogunride smashed the Nigerian record in the hammer throw to win a silver medal with a throw of 67.39m.
Highly-rated Joy Udo-Gabriel enhanced her growing reputation on the continent as she finished third in the 100m women's final in 11.58s.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's biggest medal prospect in the men's 100m, Seye Ogunlewe, finished outside a medal position, to the disappointment of the home support.
Rather it was a clean sweep for favourite Akani Simbine of South Africa, who emerged the continent' fastest man in a time of 10.25s to win gold. Arthur Cisse of Ivory Coast came second in a time of 10.33s and Simon Magakwe, also of South Africa placed third in 10.35s.
In the women's 100m final, Ivory Coast's Marie-Josee Ta Lou won gold in a time of 11.15s. Janet Amponsah of Ghana came second in 11.54s, while Udo-Gabriel of Nigeria emerged the bronze medal winner.
It was a sweet victory for the Ivorian, who had finished as 100m bronze medallist in the previous two editions.
Other medal winners on the day include, Mohamed Khalifa of Egypt, who won silver in the men's shot put, Kyle Blignaut of South Africa claimed bronze in the event.
Rikennete Steenkamp of South Africa and Rosvitha Okou of Ivory Coast finished second and third in the women's 100m hurdles final, while Soukaina Zakour (Morocco) and Bouzebra Zouina (Algeria) finished first and third in the women's hammer throw final.
