The Kenya government has pushed its rugby union to reinstate national coach Innocent Simiyu, ahead of the Sevens World Cup in San Francisco next month.

Last Thursday the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) announced that they had parted ways with Simiyu after the coach took responsibility for the display that saw the playing unit blank out sponsor's branding during the Paris Sevens.

But in a surprising turn of events, Simiyu has been reinstated on Monday following a meeting between Rashid Echesa, the Sports Cabinet Secretary and KRU vice-chairman, Thomas Opiyo.

In a letter from the ministry of sports signed by Echesa which KweséESPN saw, the KRU and the Cabinet Secretary agreed that Simiyu and two should return to work on Monday evening.

"I met with the board of directors and CEO of the Kenya Rugby Union led by their vice-chairman Thomas Opiyo and CEO Ronald Bukusi to resolve on the head coach suspension and preparation of the Sevens World Cup to be held in July 2018," stated the letter.

The Cabinet Secretary and the KRU also resolved to work together on the pending payments of their salaries and allowances.

"In future, the federation will be consulting with the ministry before such key and serious decisions are made," said Echesa in a signed statement.

Simiyu who took up the position of national coach in October 2016, will have his contract expire in October this year. He will now lead Kenya's Shujaa to the World Cup, where they face Tonga in their opener on July 20.
