KCCA FC head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has criticized striker Muhammad Shaban, saying he cannot rely on the player.

Shaban joined KCCA FC from Ugandan rivals Onduparaka FC last September, but was not part of Mutebi's winning team when they beat arch-rivals Vipers SC 1-0 in the Uganda Cup in Bukedea District on Saturday.

Julius Poloto scored the lone goal after 39 minutes to ensure the 10-man KCCA FC team picked some silverware this season, in a match which saw Shaban Juma Ibrahim sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

"It is so sad that Shaban Muhammad was brought up badly because he does not know what to do to the extent that he does not respect his job and has no value for it, " Mutebi told the media after KCCA FC triumphed on Saturday.

The coach added the striker returned from international duty on Monday, but never showed up for training even though KCCA FC was preparing for a Uganda Cup final.

"I am not so surprised that he is behaving so that is how most Ugandan players in all clubs are behaving thinking that they are so special yet they are inconsistent," Mutebi continued.

"I have tried my best to work on him change as I had promised but it seems I have failed because of his personality and I cannot rely on him."

Despite playing the match without his main striker, Mutebi was pleased with how his young players performed under pressure against Vipers SC.

"The season has been successful because we have defended the Uganda Cup, finished second in the League and made it to the group stage of the Champions League with the young emerging players," Mutebi told KweséESPN.

"It is not about putting the young lads on pressure, but they are good students and know what to do.

Shaban was KCCA FC's leading striker with 13 goals in the Uganda Premier League this season, and was the top scorer in the 2017 COSAFA U-20 Championship.

Shaban unavailable for comment when KweséESPN tried to reach the player.
