Elia Viviani wins third stage of Giro d'Italia, second win in two days

Elia Viviani won stage three of the Giro d'Italia on Sunday, his second win in two days.

The Italian rider repeated his strategy once again of sprinting from the back of the pack to take the lead as they crossed the line of the 229km stage from Be'er Sheva to Eilat, Israel.

Viviani's arrival was followed by Italian Sacha Modolo in second place.

During the tense race Viviani was almost pushed into the barriers by Irishman Sam Bennett as the two sprinted to the finish.

But despite the 29-year-old's prowess, Australian Dennis Rohan retains the pink jersey having come first in earlier stages of the race and finishing the second and third stages in the peloton.

Second is Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands with Britain's Chris Froome finishing in the peloton once again.

The next stage will be in Sicily, covering 198km between Catania and Caltagirone.
