Ryan Moon continued his red-hot form with the only goal as Kaizer Chiefs claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Cape Town City in their Premier Soccer League clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Moon netted a fifth goal in six games for Amakhosi as they moved into second in the table, four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, though they have played a game more.

The result likely ended City's title hopes this season and in truth they came up with little in a game they had to win.

Teko Modise forced a good save from Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune in the first half, but City gloveman Sage Stephens was the busier of the two goalies.

Moon got his goal early in the second period when Siphelele Ntshangase played the ball into the box and as the City defenders hesitated, he poked the ball home.

Moon had a fine chance to add a second but saw his effort well saved by Stephens as Chiefs claimed a deserved three points.

Earlier, Bidvest Wits continued their revival with a 2-1 away victory over Golden Arrows in a feisty encounter that included three penalties and two red cards.

Referee Victor Gomes oversaw the controversial contest that left both coaches exasperated at the end.

Former Arrows forward Gabadinho Mhango netted the opener for Wits, after which Zimbabwean striker Knox Mutizwa missed a spot-kick for the home side.

Wits were then awarded a penalty that was converted by Lehlohonolo Majoro to make it 2-0 to the visitors just before halftime.

Arrows were awarded a second penalty with 15 minutes remaining and this time Malawi international Limbikani Mzava converted.

That set up a grandstand finish and with tempers flaring, Wits forward James Keene and Arrows midfielder Jabulani Shongwe -- once on the books of The Clever Boys -- were sent off after a scuffle.

League champions Wits move up to 10th in the table, and in this disastrous season to date are now just two points off Chippa United in seventh position.

Chippa held Baroka FC to a 0-0 draw in their clash in Polokwane, a good point for them as they look to seal a top-eight place.
