Manyonga breaks SA record for a third time

Luvo Manyonga broke the South African indoor long jump record for the third time in a week on Sunday, and this time bagged himself the African record as well.

The 27-year-old world champion bettered the previous stand of 8.18m on Wednesday evening in Paris, first with a jump of 8.23m and then later 8.32m.

And last night in Metz it got even better, with Manyonga recovering from two no jumps before getting it right a leap of 8.40m.

That jump also saw him break the African record of 8.36m by Ghana's Ignisious Gaisah, posted 12 years ago.

Manyonga, who also holds the South African outdoor record at 8.65m, will have his eyes set on American legend Carl Lewis' indoor benchmark of 8.79m, set some 34 years ago in New York City.
