Kipruto sets sights on new personal best in Glasgow

Kenyan middle distance runner Conseslus Kipruto has set his sights on a new personal best in the 3000m when he participates at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow on February 25.

The 23-year-old is now stranger to the Emirates Arena, having set his personal best of 7:55.76 there last year.

"I am determined to improve on my time this year. But all this will only be made possible by putting in a lot in training," Kipruto told KweséESPN on Friday.

"I have what it takes to shade off the time and perform better. I know it will be a very tight race, but I am preparing well.

"This is going to be a very busy year with even the Commonwealth Games coming close in April. But I will make sure I prepare adequately so that my performance is much better than last year.

The Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow is the final meeting in the IAAF World Indoor Tour, with wildcards for the IAAF World Indoor Championships available to athletes who have not already qualified to compete for their nation.

American Olympic 5000m silver medalist Paul Chelimo and Olympic sixth-place finisher Andrew Butchart of Great Britain is likely to be Kipruto's main rivals.

Kipruto is the reigning Olympic and World champion in the steeplechase, with a personal best of 8:00.12 set at the Birmingham Diamond League event in 2016.
