Away victory in Oriental derby as Obaje, Lokosa extend scoring streaks

Enugu Rangers were winners on the road in the Oriental derby in Owerri, while Godwin Obaje and Junior Lokosa were on target for a third successive Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day.

Heartland 0 - 1 Enugu Rangers

Enugu Rangers got their first win of the season in fine style, securing a vital away victory at Heartland, in the second Oriental derby of the season.

Bright Silas scored the winner in the 10th-minute to secure a win for the Flying Antelopes, which takes them into 16th on the log.

The outcome could have been different for Heartland had Lucky Emariojake converted a first-half penalty, which hit the frame of the goal. That missed spot kick means the Owerri-based club still await their first goal of the season and are in 18th-place.

Rivers United 2 - 1 Kano Pillars

Kano Pillars suffered their first defeat of the season away at Rivers United, in a match which saw Junior Lokosa extend his fine scoring for Sai Masu Gida.

Markson Ojobo's cross was met with a first-time volley by Bamba Bakari to hand Rivers United the lead after 19-minutes. Junior Lokosa levelled for the away team in the 31st-minute, the forward's third successive league goal of the season.

Guy Keumian netted the all-important winning strike in the 56th-minute, securing a victory which moves Rivers United into eighth-place, while Pillars drop seven places to 10th on the table.

Abia Warriors 1 - 0 Plateau United

League champions Plateau United suffered a first league defeat of the season at Abia Warriors, and in the process lost their clean sheet record after Match Day three.

Samson Obi's second-minute goal decided a cagey contest in Umuahia. The win preserves Abia Warriors perfect home record this season, as they are level on points with Plateau United, but are a spot above the champions in sixth-place.

Wikki Tourists 1 - 0 Niger Tornadoes

Mustapha Ibrahimi's second-half goal handed ninth-place Wikki Tourists a nervy win against Niger Tornadoes.

The match, played at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, was characterised by a total of three first-half tactical and injury-enforced substitutions.

The defeat, a first of the season for Niger Tornadoes, drops them two spots to fourth-place, and extends their losing streak in Bauchi to three successive seasons.

Lobi Stars 1 - 0 Go Round FC

Samad Kadiri was the match winner for Lobi Stars against Go Round FC in Makurdi on Sunday evening.

It was Kadiri's second successive goal in four days following his strike midweek in Enugu. The win moves Lobi Stars to the top of the league table, while Go Round FC, who suffered yet another defeat on the away travels are in 15th-place.

Akwa United 2 - 0 Yobe Desert Stars

Akwa United got back to winning ways on home turf following a surprise midweek loss in Omoku.

The Promise Keepers' beat Yobe Desert Stars in Uyo thanks to goals within the space of two minutes from Victor Mbaoma - his first for the club in three outings - and Michael Ibe.

The win improves Akwa United's league position, as they are second on the table, while newcomers Yobe Desert Stars are in 13th-place.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2 -0 Kwara United

Godwin Obaje and Ekene Awazie scored in each half to hand FC Ifeanyi Ubah a home win against Kwara United, a comfortable victory which propels the privately-sponsored team to end the weekend in third-place.

Obaje grabbed his third league goal of the season to put his side ahead just before the half-time interval. Awazie added a second goal in the 63rd-minute, condemning rock-bottom Kwara United to a third successive defeat of the season, as they still remain without a goal.

Katsina United 2 - 0 Enyimba

Enyimba's inconsistent start to the season got even worse on Sunday, as they were beaten for a first time this term away to Katsina United, a defeat which drops the People's Elephant just a spot above the bottom of the table.

Martins Ursule and Usman Barau scored the goals for Katsina United to secure a first league win of the season to move into 10th-place, a point clear of the dreaded drop zone.

El-Kanemi Warriors 3 - 1 MFM FC

Four second-half goals in Maiduguri made up for a scoreless opening period, as El-Kanemi Warriors secured a win which moves them into fourth-place.

Goals from Bello Kofarmata, Ocheme Edoh and Sunday Anthony either side of Adekunle Adegboyega's brilliant individual consolation goal for MFM, earned a result which sees the church-sponsored team drop to 17th-place, a fair reflection of their season's struggle.
