Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United and Kano Pillars all face tricky away games on Match Day three in the Nigeria Professional Football League, as they attempt to hold on to their top positions.

Heartland vs. Enugu Rangers

For a second successive match day, Heartland are involved in an oriental derby, as they play host to Enugu Rangers.

Rangers have endured a difficult start to the season, losing their opening two games, scoring one goal in 180 minutes and sit uncomfortably in 18th-place on the log.

Heartland have fared slightly better - two spots above their guests - after two successive league goalless draws. Based on both teams' slow start to the season, we could have a low-scoring encounter to wrap up a traditional fixture.

Rivers United vs. Kano Pillars

Kano Pillars, third on the table, are away to Rivers United in Port Harcourt, their first southern opponents for the season after opening games against Katsina United and Nasarawa United.

Pillars, tipped at the start of the season as possible title contenders, have impressed, scoring four goals - Junior Lokosa and Alassan Ibrahim contributing two apiece - and they could earn a point away to a Rivers United team who are not renowned to be prolific scorers.

Abia Warriors vs. Plateau United

League champions Plateau United will hope to continue their fine start to the season when the travel to Abia Warriors.

Abia Warriors, eighth on the table, were in cruise control in their opening day home win against MFM FC, with Ndifreke Effiong scoring a brace in the game.

They face a totally different opponent in Plateau United, who are in second place and only one of two teams yet to concede this season. A clean sheet for the champions against an Abia Warriors team who are regular scorers on home turf looks to be a difficult task.

Wikki Tourists vs. Niger Tornadoes

Wikki Tourists are home to league leaders Niger Tornadoes in a game the Minna-based pacesetters will need to double their effort to avoid a first defeat of the season.

Tornadoes have scored two goals in each of their opening two league games, including an away win at Kwara United. All that could count for nothing against a Wikki team who are in 12th-place, and generally enjoy strong home form, notably winning their last two home games against Niger Tornadoes.

Lobi Stars vs. Go Round FC

Lobi Stars, fourth on the table, could end the weekend in top position with a home win against Go Round FC, provided results elsewhere go their way.

The Makurdi-based team were held to a home draw by a more accomplished Enyimba side on the opening weekend. Against opponents who are 11th on the log, Lobi Stars can bank on their top-flight experience to earn maximum points against the newly promoted Go Round FC.

Akwa United vs. Yobe Desert Stars

Akwa United have a perfect opportunity to redeem their title-aspirations with a winnable home game against Yobe Desert Stars.

The Promise Keepers were the biggest casualty midweek, losing away to one of the division's new boys, Go Round FC.

They can be rest assured of a change in fortune - considering their star-studded squad - when they face sixth-place Yobe Stars who are a spot above them, as the Damaturu-based team will face their toughest league opponents to date in Akwa United.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah vs. Kwara United FC

Ifeanyi Ubah could capitalise on Kwara United's early season stumble to further climb up the table when both teams meet in Nnewi.

The home team are in ninth-place and look poised to see off the challenge from 19th-place Kwara United who are yet to find the back of the net in successive defeats.

There could be a ray of hope for the Ilorin-based visitors to break their scoring duck against an FC Ifeanyi Ubah team who have conceded in both league matches, a 2-1 score line deciding both games.

Katsina United vs. Enyimba

Enyimba faces a tall order for a first win of the season when they play away to 17th-place Katsina United.

Both teams are winless this campaign, however, Katsina United have the better attack, with three goals scored in comparison to a solitary goal by Enyimba.

A repeat of last season's fracas between both teams on this ground has to be avoided, as any early season distractions could be detrimental to either clubs success.
