Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the capture of Uruguayan forward Gaston Sirino, as part of a flurry of new signings at Chloorkop this week.

Sirino was one of four players officially unveiled by the club in the past few days, along with New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie, Bafana Bafana winger Aubrey Ngoma, and left-back Siyabonga Zulu, who arrives from Platinum Stars.

Although raised in Montevideo, Sirino spent most of his professional career in Chile with Unión San Felipe and San Luis, before joining Bolivian side Bolívar ahead of the 2016/17 season, where he was prolific with 18 goals in 27 league starts. He is uncapped at international level.

He was personally scouted by coach Pitso Mosimane, who relies on great attention to detail, and travelled to South America to watch the player.

"You can't also only rely on scouts, you need to do the job yourself," Mosimane told reporters.

"When you see an important acquisition, you must travel and see because anybody can send you something on YouTube.

"If I send you a video of Surprise Moriri, you'll buy him today. You have to see him because I have never seen a scout sending a video with more weaknesses than strengths.

"Sirino is a kind of player that has qualities of Khama Billiat, Percy, Aubrey Ngoma, that kind of quality. I think his body size will tell you that he is not a number nine.

"He's got speed, he's an intelligent player and that's why we brought him here."

With the once-feared forward line of Leonardo Castro, Billiat and Keagan Dolly, dubbed CBD, now a thing of the past, Mosimane has had to rebuild.

He added: "As I said the CBD is gone or is going, there's only one player left [Billiat].

"We have to make sure Sundowns stays on top and that we are able to win. The CBD has not played this season, but Sundowns is still on top. He [Sirino] is part of the future and we can come up with another combination."

CBD could well be completely erased, with reports of Billiat being scouted by Qarabag in Azerbaijan, as well as Orlando Pirates rumoured to be interested.
