Africans to watch in the EFL Carabao Cup

Which of Africa's players have a point to prove in this week's EFL Carabao Cup fixtures?

Oumar Niasse: Everton parted ways with Ronald Koeman on Monday after the Dutch coach oversaw the Toffees' miserable 5-2 defeat by Arsenal on Sunday.

Everton's start to the campaign has been characterised by sluggish attacking displays and a lack of width, with Niasse - a player once rejected by Koeman - one rare ray of light.

The Senegal international offers the kind of directness and pace in advanced areas that few other players in the Blues' squad can currently match, and has already found the net four times this term, including against the Gunners.

While the West African has begun to prove Koeman wrong already this term, he'll be hoping to catch the eye of any potential successors with a standout display when the Merseysiders travel to Chelsea, live on Kwesé Free Sports, on Wednesday.

Islam Slimani: Yet to appoint a new permanent replacement for Craig Shakespeare, Leicester will be overseen by Michael Appleton again for the visit of Leeds United this week.

The interim boss may well opt to give some of the squad's fringe players a run out and afford them an opportunity to prove that they deserve a prominent role in the Foxes' climb away from the dropzone.

Algeria international Slimani could be one man to benefit from the change in regime.

He has made scant impact since moving to the King Power Stadium last term, managing just 108 Prem minutes this term and failing to find the net.

However, he impressed in League Cup victories over Sheffield United - scoring twice - and Liverpool - scoring once - and will be desperate to continue his goalscoring form against Leeds.

Andre Ayew: Like Everton and Leicester City, West Ham United are a club under pressure.

Perhaps, in the context of their campaign, the EFL Cup isn't a major priority for the Hammers, but in light of their home defeat by Brighton and Hove Albion, defeat against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur could prove fatal for Slaven Bilic.

Expect the Croatian coach to refresh his squad for the trip to Wembley, and one player who could be introduced into the starting XI is Dede.

He was introduced at the break against Brighton, but delivered another ineffective display during a painful defeat.

However, Ayew has often proved himself to be a player for the big occasion, and he could be a contender to lift the Irons against their local rivals. The East Londoners are certainly in need of a hero.

Alfred N'Diaye: Expect Wolverhampton Wanderers coach Nuno Espirito Santo to shuffle has pack ahead of the daunting bout against Manchester City, live on Kwesé Sports 1 at 21:00 CAT on Tuesday.

Not only are Wolves up against one of the in-form sides in the world game, but they are also prioritising promotion from the Championship this term, and will look to rest players ahead of the visit to Queens Park Rangers next weekend.

One player who may well come into the side is Senegal international N'Diaye, who has started just two league games this term.

The midfield hardman - currently on loan from Villarreal - will surely see this game as a vital opportunity to demonstrate just what he can do as a destroyer in the heart of the park against one of the global game's elite sides.

Tammy Abraham: Swansea City could be forgiven for considering the EFL Cup as an unwanted distraction considering their Premier League plight, but with Manchester United coming to town, expect the Swans to still go in search of a statement victory.

With Wilfried Bony absent, Abraham should still lead the line, and the prospect of eliminating Jose Mourinho's side will surely appeal to the Anglo-Nigerian wonderkid when they clash live on Kwesé Free Sports at 20:45 CAT on Tuesday.

Expect him to have been studying Huddersfield Town's approach against the Red Devils at the weekend. The Terriers demonstrated exactly how to trouble United's backline - where Victor Lindelof appears particularly vulnerable.
