Nigeria meet arch-rivals Ghana in WAFU Cup final

Nigeria and hosts Ghana renew their fierce rivalry in Sunday's WAFU Cup of Nations final, with the two teams set for a replay after clashing during the group stage in a 2-0 win for the Super Eagles.

The West African heavyweights saw off Benin and Niger in the semi finals, and will be battling for a $100,000 pot of prize money in Sunday's showpiece at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu will be out to avoid a repeat performance of his side's 2-0 group-stage defeat by Nigeria at the same venue, and has called for caution ahead of the tournament decider.

"We are going to face Nigeria again, of course they are a tough side," he told journalists, as per Goal. "They beat us in the first game and it is important for us to be very cautious ahead of this game.

"We must make sure we correct some mistakes we made in the first game so we don't repeat them again.

"Nigeria, for me, have been one of the best teams in the competition so far."

The Super Eagles' success at the tournament has being built on an impregnable defensive unit which has yet to concede, going five matches and 450 minutes without being breached.

That has somewhat compensated for a wasteful forward line which have failed to take many of the chances presented to them, notably in the goalless stalemates against Mali and Guinea in the group stage.

Similarly, Nigeria were fortunate to sneak past Benin 1-0 in the semi final after another profligate display in front of goal, and will be hoping their forwards can find their feet in Sunday's showpiece occasion.
