Manyama completes Turkish switch

South Africa international midfielder Lebogang Manyama has completed a deadline day switch to Turkish side Konyaspor, his club Cape Town City have confirmed.

Manyama had been desperate to leave Cape Town in this transfer window having been tracked by Konyaspor for more than a month.

Although City provided no details of the deal, it is believed the club will receive a transfer fee of 800,000 Euros for the 26-year-old.

"Cape Town City can confirm the transfer of Lebogang Manyama to Turkish Super League side Konyaspor FC!" City tweeted on Thursday.

The City captain leaves the club as the reigning Premier Soccer League Player of the Season, ending a protracted fight for his signature that also included Mamelodi Sundowns.

City owner John Comitis said on Wednesday that he had received a late bid for Manyama's services from The Brazilians, but that it fell well short of what Konyaspor had put on the table.

Manyama netted 13 league goals last season to finish as top-scorer in the South African top-flight as he helped his club to third in the league and the Telkom Knockout trophy.

The Tembisa-born midfielder had made his PSL debut in the 2010/11 season at Ajax Cape Town, where he spent three-and-a-half seasons before an ill-fated move to SuperSport United.

He enjoyed little success there and 18 months later was loaned to Mpumalanga Black Aces.

He moved with the franchise when that club was sold to form Cape Town City ahead of the 2016/17 season, and shone having been surprisingly handed the captain's armband.

Manyama is currently in Cape Verde with the South African national team ahead of their World Cup qualifier on Friday.
