Skills, thrills and windmills -- what an All-Star Saturday Night it was!
Spencer Dinwiddie showed remarkable skills, Devin Booker showed remarkable range and Donovan Mitchell showed remarkable ability to pay homage to his dunking forefathers. And we have the pictures to prove it.
Saturday night during NBA All-Star Weekend is famous for a good many things: a genuinely thrilling 3-point contest, a skills challenge featuring the only chest passes you'll see all season, and ridiculous high-concept dunks involving the leaping-over of an ever-increasing number of human beings. These are but a few of the many scenes from All-Star Saturday night. Miami Heat guard Wayne Ellington, shooting a very solid 38.7 percent from range this season, smiles as he watches a replay of his first round in the 3-point contest. Ultimately he'd fall a couple of smiles short, failing by a single point to advance to the second round. Comedian Kevin Hart, who aided Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell on Mitchell's second dunk, laughs it up during a break in the All-Star Saturday festivities. The Spencer Dinwiddie Revenge Tour continues! The Brooklyn Nets guard, averaging career highs in, oh, just about everything, took home the trophy in the 2018 Skills Challenge. Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, left, chuckles courtside with Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns. What this definitely means: Westbrook is going to Minnesota. Raptors guards DeMar DeRozan, center, and Kyle Lowry welcome Warriors guard Klay Thompson back to the bench during the 3-point contest. Thompson, last year's winner, would go on to finish one trey behind champion Devin Booker in the final round. Raptors forward Serge Ibaka -- always working the boards -- appears to box out former Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook as current teammate Kyle Lowry competes in the 3-point contest. The common thread in all of Donovan Mitchell's dunks? These faces. Rockets point guard James Harden enjoys a beverage -- and All-Star Saturday night -- beside former Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook. What this definitely means: Westbrook is going to Houston. The 3-point contest brings everyone together. Demarjay Smith, a 10-year-old YouTube celebrity, and Warriors center JaVale McGee (star of a few unintentionally hilarious YouTube videos, himself) enjoy the aerial assault. Slam Dunk Contest judges form left, DJ Khaled, Lisa Leslie and Chris Rock saw the good, the bad and the Victor Oladipo during the 2018 dunk contest. Never a doubt. Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell dunks over just about everybody in attendance -- well, really only three humans -- at Saturday's Slam Dunk Contest. Kings guard Buddy Hield, eliminated in the Skills Challenge by the GOAT Spencer Dinwiddie, take in the rest of the night's activities courtside with his two cellphones. It's all coming up Donovan Mitchell. He's a Rookie of the Year favorite, he gets to play with the lovable Ricky Rubio and he's now the 2018 Slam Dunk champion.
