Darts

Top seed Michael van Gerwen eased into the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship with a 3-0 win over qualifier Kim Viljanen.

Dutchman Van Gerwen, who averaged 103.34 against the Finn, made light work of his opponent and will now face Cristo Reyes in the second round.

Reyes defeated Dimitri Van den Bergh 3-2 in his opening match in Saturday's evening session at the Alexandra Palace.

Last year's quarterfinallist Steven Bunting fell at the first hurdle as he was beaten 3-2 by Darren Webster.

In the afternoon session, Terry Jenkins came from a set down to book his place in the second round with a 3-1 win over Josh Payne at Alexandra Palace.

Andrew Gilding squeezed into the second round after coming from two sets down to edge out John Henderson 3-2 in a sudden death tie-break win.

Gilding won the final set 6-5 in a marathon match with a neat 75 finish to line up a match with Gary Anderson.

Fifteenth seed Benito van de Pas beat qualifier Tengku Shah 3-1 in the first round and will face Jenkins in round two.
