Irishman Sam Bennett claimed victory on stage one of the Tour of Turkey as the race got under way on Tuesday. Bennett avoided being caught up in a crash in the final couple of kilometres that involved a number of riders and, aided by his Bora-Hansgrohe team-mate Shane Archbold, timed his sprint finish to perfection. Italian Marco Benfatto [Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia] was second, with Belgium's Edward Theuns [Trek-Segafredo] third. The 176.7km stage from Alanya to Kemer was the first of six stages of the tour. Wednesday's second stage is 206km and runs from Kumluca to Fethiye.
