Team Sky's Geraint Thomas to return to action in Tour of Britain

Cycling, Endurance

Geraint Thomas will return to action in the Tour of Britain following his crash during the Tour de France earlier this year.

The Team Sky rider took the famous yellow jersey in July after winning the opening time trial -- holding on to the jersey until eventual champion Chris Froome took the race lead after stage five.

But a fall in stage nine ended Thomas' race, leaving him with a broken collarbone.

Speaking ahead of the Tour of Britain, which starts on Sept. 3, Thomas said: "The support from the British fans is always fantastic and it's going to be great to race at home. We've got a strong squad coming and I'm really looking forward to it."

The final stage of the race will take place in Thomas' home town of Cardiff.

"Coming back to Cardiff is going to be special," Thomas added. "It's something the Welsh guys have been talking about since the route was announced. I'm sure the fans will do us proud".

Michal Kwiatkowski and Vasil Kiryienk, who rode alongside Thomas in the Le Tour, will support the Welshman, with Tao Geoghegan Hart, Owain Doull and Olympic gold medalist Elia Viviani completing Team Sky's line up.
