QEA round-up: Khurram Manzoor run out for 199, Peshawar win inside two days

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Cricket

Heated exchange between Salahuddin and Shehzad

Not much annoys fast bowlers more than being dead-batted, particularly if they're toiling away on lifeless tracks. Those circumstances got the better of HBL fast bowler Khurram Shahzad when he lost his cool and hurled the ball back in anger at Usman Salahuddin, hitting him on the leg. Usman - who had taken 257 minutes and 171 balls for his 51 - then swore at the bowler in retaliation. Both players were visibly angry and the heated exchange of words continued, eventually requiring an intervention from the umpires and other fielders to calm things down.

Shehzad, 24, is a medium fast bowler from Mandi Bhauddin. He was only playing his sixth first-class game, while Salahuddin, captain of Lahore Whites has played one Test and two ODIs for Pakistan. Both players have been charged by match referee Aziz-ur-Rehman and are likely to lose 100% of their match fee. The incident occurred on the third day of the Pool A Quaid-e-Azam Trophy game at Gaddafi Stadium, which ended in a draw.

Peshawar on fire

How often do you hear about a first-class match ending in two days? Not very, unless you're talking about the Quaid-e-Azam trophy. Peshawar were on a roll, as they bowed NBP out for 106 and 88, wrapping up the game inside two days in Faisalabad, on a pitch known to be favourable to batsmen.

While the wickets were shared, Nasir Ahmed and Taj Wali did bulk of the damage, taking eight and six wickets each. Peshawar themselves were bundled out for 127 in the first innings, but after their bowlers bailed them out, they chased down a target of 68 with eight wickets in hand. Having won all three matches of the season, Peshawar are on top of the table with 24 points.

Khurram Manzoor pulls a Younis Khan on 199

Khurram Manzoor hasn't played for Pakistan in over two years, but he has enjoyed a bright start to this QeA season, perched atop the run-scoring chart currently. This third round saw him produce his best innings so far, as he led Karachi Whites to an innings victory over ZTB Bank. He scored 199, only to be denied a double century as he was run out in an attempt to steal a quick single. Even so, with 411 runs in 5 innings, Manzoor has been a standout performer in the QeA this season.
