New Zealand batsman Rob Nicol announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Saturday. The 35-year old was best known for scoring a century on ODI debut, and more recently, captained Auckland to the T20 championship in December 2015. He was also part of the World T20 squad in 2010 and 2012 and was named the most valuable player in domestic cricket in 2011. Nicol played two Tests, 22 ODIs and 21 T20Is for New Zealand between March 2012 and November 2013. The seam-bowling allrounder made 941 runs from 44 innings and picked up 15 wickets as well in international cricket. He was far more prolific in the domestic scene though, playing over 100 matches in each format of the game. Nicol began his career with Auckland in 2001-02, spending eight seasons with them. He then moved to Canterbury in 2009-10 for five seasons before returning home and finally winding down. He finished with 6319 runs and 43 wickets in first-class cricket, 4717 runs and 96 wickets in one-day matches and 2712 runs and 69 wickets in T20s.
