Three new faces as Netherlands begin post-Borren era

Netherlands celebrate after closing out another tight win Panda Man

Netherlands will begin their post-Peter Borren era next week when they face Ireland and Scotland in a T20I tri-series at home. Left-arm spinner Pieter Seelaar was appointed captain in April and his tenure will begin on June 12, leading a squad with three new faces.

Medium pacers Shane Snater and Fred Klaassen, who were part of the World Cup qualifier campaign in March, have broken in along with Bas de Leede, the 18-year old batsman who made a half-century on first-class debut last November.

Timm van der Gugten (Glamorgan), Paul van Meekeren (Somerset), Roelof van der Merwe (Somerset) and Ryan ten Doeschate (Essex) were tentatively named in a squad of 14 but their availability has not been confirmed yet. All four players are currently in England playing county cricket. The Zulfiqar twins - Sikander and Saqib - rounded out the T20 roster.

Seamer Quirijn Gunnin was added to the squad, specifically to face Scotland, and so was batsman Max O'Dowd who might serve as cover for ten Doeschate, who is expected to play against Ireland only.

Ahsan Malik, Vivian Kingma, Stephan Myburgh, Michael Rippon were the players to miss out on selection since Netherlands last played T20 cricket, in the Desert T20 challenge in January 2017.

Squad to face Ireland on June 12 and 13: Pieter Seelaar (capt.), Wesley Barresi, Ben Cooper, Scott Edwards, Fred Klaassen, Bas de Leede, Shane Snater, Tobias Visée, Saqib Zulfiqar, Sikander Zulfiqar. To be confirmed: Timm van der Gugten, Paul van Meekeren, Roelof van der Merwe, Ryan ten Doeschate
