Scorecard

Simi Singh's maiden first-class century salvaged Ireland A's batting performance after they made a poor start against Bangladesh A on the first day of their unofficial Test in Sylhet. The home side finished on 38 for 1 in response to the visitors' 255 all out.

Nathan Smith picked up Zakir Hasan in the third over before Shadman Islam and captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto safely negotiated the remaining 12.5 overs, remaining unbeaten on 22 and 15 respectively.

Ireland A had earlier lost three wickets for 29 runs when Singh arrived at the crease. He lasted nearly four hours in which he struck 19 fours and four sixes in his 159-ball stay.

Singh added 79 runs for the fourth wicket with Sean Terry (20). Singh scored most of the runs in the next few partnerships before Andy McBrine - coming into bat at No. 9 - helped him out with 57, only his second first-class fifty. He struck eight fours in his 62-ball knock as the pair added 48 runs for the ninth wicket.

Offspinner Mahedi Hasan took three wickets while there were two each for pace bowlers Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Ebadot Hossain and legspinner Jubair Hossain. Sunzamul Islam, the left-arm spinner who was recently dropped from Bangladesh's ODI squad, took one wicket.
