Needed a bit of luck but Maharaj has made the breakthrough; Smith was trying to cut, got a thick edge that deflected into and out of de Kock's gloves but then ballooned up for de Villiers to jog from slip and bag safely. He knows Bancroft has been coming down often and driving him straight so what he does it toss it up (to invite him down) but bowl it discernibly wider (so that the ball spins away with Bancroft nowhere near the ball). That's exactly what happens. Bancroft is left stretching and the ball evades him. De Kock takes off the bails. 108/3

He was trying to run the ball off the face and sent it straight into Tim Paine's gloves, but he did superbly to hold it. The SA team stand in the dressing room to clap him in - it was a fantastic knock, gargling on grit, but as he walks off the light returns to Australian eyes 283/6

Markram worked the ball behind square on the leg side, de Villiers called and was halfway down when Markram indicated he wasn't interested - having initially taken a couple of steps - Warner then fired a flat throw to Lyon and AB was nowhere near getting back, desperately stumbling and diving for the crease! Utter shambles, and Australia have knocked another brick from the wall 39/3
