Northwestern has officially hired Lou Ayeni as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. On this first day that FBS programs are allowed to add a 10th assistant coach, Ayeni leaves his role at Iowa State, where he worked for four seasons -- the past two under Matt Campbell as associate head coach and running game coordinator. Ayeni played running back and safety at Northwestern and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the Big Ten school. Veteran Matt MacPherson moves for the Wildcats to special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach under Pat Fitzgerald.

What a moment for Iowa State and coach Matt Campbell to cap an 8-5 season with a bowl victory, 21-20 over Memphis. Iowa State has a memorable group of seniors — notably Joel Lanning and Allen Lazard, who are almost impossible to replace. But they put the Cyclones on a good track with the program's first postseason win since 2009.

Iowa State locked up coach Matt Campbell on Monday with a new six-year deal worth $3.5 million annually, up from $2.1 million. Campbell, in his second season, guided the Cyclones to seven wins, including victories over Oklahoma and TCU. The former Toledo coach had said repeatedly that he planned to stay in Ames.
