Washington State officially announced Pat Chun has been hired as the school's new athletic director. Chun has been the athletic director at Florida Atlantic since 2012. He begins Feb. 5.

Leach: Hilinski showed no signs of depression

Washington State coach Mike Leach said that quarterback Tyler Hilinski, who killed himself Tuesday, gave no outward indication of depression or sadness, calling the quarterback someone who "would lift up others when they were down."

Washington St. QB Hilinski's death ruled suicide

Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski's death has officially been ruled a suicide by the Whitman County Coroner's office. Hilinski was found dead Tuesday afternoon with a rifle and a handwritten suicide note beside him, police said.

The Whitman County (Wash.) Coroner's office has officially ruled Tyler Hilinski's death a suicide, it announced Thursday. Hilinski, a quarterback for Washington State, was found dead Tuesday afternoon. The official cause of death is a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner's office confirmed. He was 21.

Visited with Nebraska AD Bill Moos in Indianapolis ahead of the DI autonomy discussion forum. Moos, formerly of Washington State, said he was stunned and saddened by the news of Tyler Hilinski's death this week. Moos said he knew Hilinski well and that he came from a great family in California.

Tyler Hilinski's brother, Ryan, provided the following statement: "We, as a family, are grieving after receiving news that my brother, Tyler Hilinski took his own life this afternoon. We are in complete shock and disarray. Tyler was the kid that put a smile on everybody's face when they were down, especially his family. We will mourn the loss of Tyler for some time but celebrate the way he lived his life every day."

Washington State announced the press conference it has scheduled to introduce its new athletic director tomorrow has been postponed. It will release another statement shortly regarding the passing of Tyler Hilinski.

Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski, 21, was found dead in an apartment in Pullman, according to Pullman police. He suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and a rifle was found next to him with a suicide note.

Florida Atlantic athletic director Pat Chun is set to be named the new athletic director at Washington State, sources told ESPN. He will be introduced Wednesday.

Former Minnesota coach Tracy Claeys has agreed to become the new defensive coordinator at Washington State, a source confirmed to ESPN. He will replace Alex Grinch, who was officially announced as an assistant at Ohio State on Monday.

Ohio State officially announces Alex Grinch has joined the staff. Grinch, who did an excellent job as Washington State's defensive coordinator and was coveted by several top Power 5 programs, returns to his home state. His responsibilities with the defensive staff will be announced later.

The Pac-12 finished 1-8 in bowl games, which is the worst single-season bowl record in history for a Power 5 conference (minimum five games). The previous worst was the Big Ten in 2008, which went 1-6, according to ESPN Stats and Information. Utah, which beat West Virginia 30-14, was the only school to register a win.

Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was photographed earlier in the week with a cast on his non-throwing wrist and missed Thursday night's bowl game, but coach Mike Leach refused to give specifics on the draft prospect's situation.
