Lane Kiffin, FAU thank Wisconsin for hosting them during Hurricane Irma

College Football, Florida Atlantic Owls, Wisconsin Badgers

Rather than returning to Boca Raton, Florida, after Saturday's loss to Wisconsin, the Florida Atlantic Owls remained in Madison this week to avoid Hurricane Irma as it barreled through Florida.

The Badgers were more than welcoming, as athletic director Barry Alvarez offered FAU lodging and grief counselors, among other resources. A local Pizza Hut offered a meal to the 87 players, coaches, staffers and dozens of coaches' family members who fled the storm with the team.

Coach Lane Kiffin and the Owls took out a full-page ad in Friday's Wisconsin State Journal to show their appreciation for the support:

The text reads in full:

"Dear Badger Nation,

Thank You! You have opened your hearts to our football program for the past six days in our time of need. Every single person on campus and in the community was kind and courteous. The Badger Football Team even shared their home with us and made our stay as comfortable as possible. We are forever indebted to the Wisconsin Athletic Department, Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and Head Coach Paul Chryst for their collective generosity. We wish you nothing but the best of luck with the rest of your football season. ON WISCONSIN!

Sincerely,

Lane Kiffin

Florida Atlantic University Head Football Coach"

FAU left Madison on Wednesday and is set to host Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at 6:30 p.m, as originally scheduled.
