Morgan State has removed the interim tag and named Fred Farrier as its head coach.
The 44-year-old Farrier was named the interim coach in February and led Morgan State to a 3-8 record this season, including 3-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Bears had four players earn all-conference honors and 15 selected to the conference's academic team.
"In my assessment of the football program, it became clear to me that Coach Farrier is committed to the values of Morgan State University and the athletics department," athletic director Edward Scott said. "Fred has shown a true commitment to the overall student-athlete experience and he provides much needed stability for our program moving forward."
Farrier, a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, is the 14th head coach in school history. He spent the 2014 and '15 seasons as the Bears' offensive coordinator under Lee Hull, who left last offseason to join the Indianapolis Colts' staff.
A graduate of Holy Cross, Farrier was the head coach at Division II Kentucky State from 2005-09, going 19-25. He's also been an assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Tennessee Tech and Saginaw Valley State, and he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Michigan State under then-coach Nick Saban.
