Brian Polian is out as the football coach at Nevada, according to a news release from the school, which said the parties "have mutually decided to part ways." Nevada beat UNLV 45-10 on Sunday, but finished the year 5-7. In four years under Polian, who replaced longtime coach Chris Ault, the Wolf Pack were 23-27 and made bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015. "This decision is about finding a new head coach who will help us win a championship, and who will continue to build and strengthen relationships within our department, our campus, our alumni and our great community," athletic director Doug Knuth said in a statement. "The support from those constituencies is vital to the success of building a championship program." Prior to being hired at Nevada, Polian, who is the son of Hall of Fame executive and ESPN NFL analyst Bill Polian, was the special-teams coordinator at Texas A&M (2012), Stanford (2010-2011) and Notre Dame (2005-2009), among other stops. The Wolf Pack were 14-18 in Mountain West play (and never better than 4-4) during his tenure. "I appreciate the opportunity that I was given by President [Marc] Johnson and the University of Nevada four years ago," Polian said. "I felt, and continue to feel, that we were building a solid foundation for this program. However, this season was fraught with adversity, and in the end we did not win enough games. "Like every coach, I understand that this is a business. I wish we would have produced better results in 2016." The school will immediately begin a national search for Polian's replacement, according to the release.
