Record-setter Smith leads Campbell over Davidson 42-29

College Football, Davidson Wildcats, Campbell Camels

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Daniel Smith rushed for a school-record 289 yards and four touchdowns and passed for another to lead Campbell over Davidson 42-29 on Saturday.

Smith's big day day included an 80-yard run in the third quarter that put the Camels up 38-15 early in the third quarter. His 20-yard scoring run gave the Camels a 21-15 lead at halftime and put them ahead to stay.

Smith's 289 yards rushing and 1,191 this season eclipsed De'Shawn Jones' marks of 201 and 1,079 set in 2015. His four rushing touchdowns tied a school record.

Aaron Blockmon had three catches that gave him a school career record of 101, passing Ben Bolling (100, 2011-15) and his 87 yards receiving put him over 2,000 for his career, a first at Campbell (6-4, 5-2 Pioneer Football League). The defense joined in the record day when Carlos Merritt made the team's 19th interception this season.

Wesley Duggar rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns, the first time a Wildcat had rushed for three scores since 2007. Trevor Smith kicked two field goals that put him alone in first in the Davidson record book with 37 in his career. The Wildcats (2-7, 0-6) have lost six straight.

This was the last meeting for the in-state rivals as PFL opponents with Campbell moving to the Big South next season.
