Chattanooga uses late Ulmo FG to upset Samford 23-21

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Victor Ulmo delivered on a 39-yard field goal with 19 seconds left in the game to lift Chattanooga to a 23-21 Southern Conference upset victory over Samford Saturday.

Devlin Hodges ran for a score and hit Chris Shelling on a 30-yard score in the fourth quarter to put the Bulldogs in front, 21-20.

Samford (5-3, 3-2), coming off an upset win over Wofford last week, was plagued by turnovers. Hodges completed 33 of 54 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns, but he was picked off three times, with one interception returned for a touchdown.

Chattanooga (2-7, 2-4) drove 56 yards in nine plays to set up the game-winning kick. Alex Trotter kept the drive alive, scampering 17 yards on fourth-and-one to give the Mocs a first down at the Samford 38.

Cole Copeland was 14 of 27 for 144 yards and two scores, but threw two interceptions.
