Burdick's field goal lifts Bucknell past Sacred Heart 34-31

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Joey DeFloria ran in two touchdowns and John Burdick kicked the winning 46-yard field goal with two seconds left to lift Bucknell past Sacred Heart for a 34-31 win Saturday night.

Tied at 31 with 2:31 to play, Bucknell (2-2) got a big defensive stop on fourth-and-1, taking over the ball on downs at the Sacred Heart 49. The Bison got to the 23 but a holding penalty pushed them back to the 35, setting up Burdick's winning kick.

DeFloria finished with 80 yards on 26 carries, punching in touchdowns from the 12 and the 3, and John Chiarolanzio was 21 of 34 for 187 yards passing with a 38-yard TD throw to Jack Horan to put Bucknell on the board in the first quarter.

Sacred Heart (2-2) trailed most of the game but twice tied it up.

Down 17-0, the Pioneers got a field goal along with touchdowns from its defense and special teams. The touchdowns included a 60-yard interception return by Kevin Barry followed by a 98-yard kick return by Ezekiel Ennis midway through the third quarter.

Bucknell retook the lead with DeFloria's second TD and then got a 1-yard touchdown carry from Chad Freshnock to pad it to 31-17.

Sacred Heart came back with an 11-yard touchdown by Eli Terry to cap a 79-yard drive and then Kevin Duke, who was 14 of 29 for 244 yards passing, connected with Lawrence Nembhard for a 45-yard TD with just over four minutes left.
