Eastern Illinois beats Eastern Kentucky in overtime 23-20

College Football, Eastern Illinois Panthers, Eastern Kentucky Colonels

CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Matt Severino's third field goal of the game gave Eastern Illinois the lead in overtime and Bradley Dewberry's interception then gave the Panthers a 23-20 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

After Eastern Illinois lost 3 yards on their first three overtime snaps, Severino connected from 45 yards before Dewberry intercepted Tim Boyle on Eastern Kentucky's first play on offense in overtime.

The Panthers (6-4, 5-2 Ohio Valley Conference), who have won their six games by a combined 15 points, looked to have won this game in regulation on Daryl McCleskey's 5-yard rush with 37 seconds left on third-and-goal. But Scotty Gillkey passed the Colonels (3-6, 3-4) down the field to tie with two seconds left when Alexander Hollins snagged a 24-yarder amid a crowd in the right corner of the end zone. Hollins finished with 107 yards on four receptions.

Eastern Kentucky has rushed for 508 yards over its two previous games but had just 64 net against the Panthers, led by McCleskey with 70 on 20 carries.

The Panthers have won all three of their overtime games this season, the previous two going double-overtime.
