Monmouth runs past Lehigh in 46-27 win

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Pete Guerriero had 25 carries for 189 yards with two touchdowns, Devell Jones scored three times on five carries and Monmouth pulled away from Lehigh 46-27 on Saturday.

Monmouth (2-0) built a 14-0 lead within the first five minutes when Guerriero scored on a 71-yard touchdown run. But Lehigh countered with four touchdowns in a 36-minute span and built a 27-20 lead.

Brad Mayes threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Luke Christiano 39 seconds into the third quarter, and Lehigh (0-2) never scored again.

Monmouth scored the final four touchdowns of the contest, as Jones carried it in twice, Guerriero had another and Michael Jolly scored on a 31-yard run. The Hawks finished with 41 carries for 351 yards and six rushing touchdowns.

Mayes went 23 of 38 for 334 yards and three scores and Christiano collected 104 receiving yards.
