Bowen accounts for 2 TDs, Texas Southern beats UAPB 27-10

HOUSTON -- Johnathan Bowen passed for a touchdown and ran for another, Brad Woodard and Tylor Cook each ran for 100-plus yards and Texas Southern beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 27-10 on Saturday.

Bowen completed 4 of 7 passes for 88 yards -- including a 59-yard touchdown to Tracy Johnson with 54 seconds left in the first half -- and had 14 carries for 66 yards.

On the opening drive, Dondre Dobbins intercepted a pass by UAPB's Brandon Duncan and was tackled for no gain at the 1. Bowen capped an 18-play, 99-yard drive that spanned more than 10 minutes with a 6-yard TD run with 14:53 left in the half. After Eric Medina made field goals of 44 and 24 yards, Johnson's touchdown catch gave Texas Southern (4-6, 4-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Jamal Gladden's 2-yard touchdown run put UAPB (1-9, 1-7) on the board with 6:51 left in the third. But when the Tigers' ensuing drive stalled at the UAPB 34, Texas Southern ran a fake punt and Medina hit Elie Nabushosi to make it 27-7.
