Seewald throws 5 TDs, rallies Valparaiso to first win 49-24

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Jimmy Seewald threw five touchdown passes in his first start as Valparaiso broke away from Trinity International 49-24 on Saturday to claim its first win this season.

Valparaiso (1-2) had faced NAIA Trinity twice before, losing both. The Crusaders appeared to be aiming for a third upset, closing to 28-24 when J.J. Burmeister found Brad Hargis for a 33-yard touchdown strike late in the third quarter.

But Seewald and Jarrett Morgan turned the game around with three quick scores. Morgan broke free for 52 yards and then Seewald, a true freshman, threw scoring passes to Morgan and Mason Sutter in quick succession to put the game away. In the process, Seewald tied the Valpo record for most TD passes in a game. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 345 yards.

Morgan rushed for 106 yards and added another 83 on five catches.
