Knight has 3 TDs, New Hampshire keeps Rhode Island winless

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Trevor Knight threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another to stake New Hampshire to a lead and the Wildcats pulled away late for a 39-17 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.

Knight finished with 207 yards passing and rushed for 64 as New Hampshire (2-2, 1-0) opened Colonial Athletic Association play by beating the Rams for the sixth straight time.

Dalton Crossan, who rushed for 199 yards against Holy Cross two weeks ago, totaled 87 yards on 19 carries against Rhode Island (0-4, 0-2).

The Rams had closed to 25-17 with 9:54 remaining in the game after Paul Mroz ran it in from the 12. Knight and the Wildcats answered with a 10-play, 63-yard drive to go up 32-17 when Knight hit Neil O'Conner on a 12-yard scoring strike.

On Rhode Island's next series Josh Kania forced a fumble. D'Andre Drummond-Mayrie scooped it up and scored from the 10.
