Cal Poly grinds out 21-16 win over UC Davis

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Dano Graves passed for just 44 yards but ran in two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter, to help lift Cal Poly to a 21-16 win over UC Davis on Saturday night.

Kyle Lewis padded the lead late in the fourth quarter with a 91-yard touchdown run, a career-best, to make it 21-9 with 2:54 left and finished with 141 yards on eight carries. Joe Protheroe added 95 yards on 27 carries for Cal Poly (5-2, 3-1 Big Sky).

UC Davis (2-6, 1-4) cut the gap to five with 44 seconds left when Keelan Doss hauled in a 5-yard touchdown pass from Ben Scott. Cal Poly recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock to seal the win.

The Aggies took the lead early in the first quarter when Anthony Baumgart recovered a fumble and returned it 61 yards for a touchdown. Manusamoa Luuga finished with 118 yards on 15 carries for UC Davis.
