Gardner Webb cruises against East Tennessee State, 28-3

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Tyrell Maxwell threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 63 yards and a touchdown to help lead Gardner-Webb past East Tennessee State for a non-conference win Saturday.

Adonus Lee caught seven passes for 93 yards and Kerry Bernard added 62 more yards on the ground for Gardner-Webb (4-6), which ran the ball 54 times for 222 yards overall.

The Runnin' Bulldogs scored on a Jonathan Blackmon 2-yard TD run with 1:51 left in the first quarter and held a 21-3 lead at the half.

East Tennessee State's (1-9) only points came on a JJ Jerman 34-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Maxwell found Willie Jackson IV on a 34-yard strike on Gardner-Webb's first possession of the fourth quarter for the only points of the second half.

Austin Herink threw for 72 yards to lead the Bucs. East Tennessee State had just 126 yards of total offense.
