Michigan Wolverines (-8, 43) vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

January 1, 12 p.m., ESPN2
Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, Florida

Steele: South Carolina is 6-1 against the spread as an underdog, winning four of those outright, while Jim Harbaugh is just 5-10 against the spread as a favorite. But that is probably why this game is priced so low. South Carolina overachieved this season, winning eight games playing in the weak SEC East. It avoided LSU, Alabama and Auburn out of the West, and the win over NC State was misleading in that the Gamecocks were outgained by 258 yards. On the season, South Carolina was outgained by 34 yards per game. Michigan won the same number of games but outgained its foes by 86 yards per game. Michigan's defense allowed just 269 yards per game compared to South Carolina's 375 average yards allowed. Michigan has the potential to be a top-10 team to open 2018 and will finish the season with an impressive win.
