World middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders has been fined £100,000 for bringing boxing into disrepute.

Saunders was called before the British Boxing Board of Control after posting a video on social media in which he appeared to offer a woman drugs in exchange for a sexual act.

The WBO champion was also heard asking the woman to punch a passer-by before driving off when the pedestrian is attacked.

In a statement the BBBofC said:

"Billy Joe Saunders appeared before the Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control today under a misconduct charge following his recent behaviour shown on social media.

The Stewards have found Mr. Saunders guilty of bringing the sport of Boxing into disrepute and have fined him the sum of £100,000 and issued a severe reprimand as to his future conduct."

Nottinghamshire Police described the video as "sickening" and last Tuesday confirmed they had opened an investigation into the incident.

"Officers will be looking to identify and speak to all of those who feature in this sickening video, and a full investigation will be carried out into the number of offences that have been captured on film, including the offer to supply Class A drugs, aiding and abetting an assault, assault and public order offences," they said.

Saunders, 29, is due to fight Demetrius Andrade on Oct. 20 in Boston. Last week he tweeted:

"Apologise to everybody who's took offence totally in the wrong, can't do anything but be sorry."
