"You will always be my hero": Joe Calzaghe pays tribute to father Enzo

Joe Calzaghe has said his father Enzo "will always be my hero" in an emotional tribute a week on from his death.

Enzo, who died last Monday aged 69, coached his son to an undefeated career which included world title reigns at two weight classes, before retiring in 2008.

In a social media post Calzaghe said:

"I'm blessed having you as my dad and my best friend. You were my teacher, mentor and will always be my hero.

"You picked me up when I didn't believe in myself, and you made me believe. Without you nothing would have been possible.

"You supported me through the highs and lows, and taught me how being a great dad should be. You will be missed every day."

Enzo Calzaghe also coached Welsh boxers Enzo Macarinelli, Nathan Cleverley and Gavin Rees to world titles in a career that began at Newbridge Boxing Club in Cardiff.

He was named 'Trainer of the Year' by The Ring magazine and 'Coach of the Year' at the BBC Sports Personality awards both in 2007.

Between 1993 and 2008 he guided Joe to 46 wins -- 32 via knockout -- from 46 fights at super-middleweight and light heavyweight in what was a dominant partnership between father and son.

His funeral takes place on Friday Sept. 28.
