Paulie Malignaggi has insisted that Conor McGregor should retire and walk away from any potential fights in either UFC or boxing.

While McGregor, is currently negotiating his next opponent, and mentioned the likes of Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz and even a rematch with Floyd Mayweather as his possible next fight.

But Malignaggi believes that if McGregor is "smart" he won't make a return to either sport.

"He got smashed around by Mayweather," Malignaggi told Sky Sports. "He won't come near me now and, frankly, I don't think he should fight at all. If he's smart he should take a hike. He's not a very good boxer and in MMA, he has to fight some tough contenders.

"Unless he vacates his UFC title and takes on a lesser contender, which I can see him doing, I wouldn't fight at all if I was him."

The former two-weight world champion added that Mayweather was "teasing" McGregor about a potential rematch in the octagon, stating the American boxer was "just pulling everyone's chains".
