Brady joins teammates in Foxborough

New England Patriots

ORLANDO, Fla. -- After missing the first week of the New England Patriots' voluntary workouts and training privately in California, quarterback Tom Brady joined his teammates Tuesday in Foxborough, Mass., to participate in the team's program.

Brady's presence was expected after owner Robert Kraft said Monday from the NFL meetings in Orlando, Fla., that he wouldn't be surprised if Brady didn't report to Gillette Stadium by Wednesday.

A source close to Brady laid out the quarterback's regimen while he was in California with his family, saying he would work out for two hours in a gym in the morning, then spend two hours boxing every afternoon while his son was napping. The source also said Brady looked to be in great shape and was at times joined by teammate Wes Welker, who had offseason knee surgery, and former teammate Matt Cassel.

The team confirmed Tuesday that both Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss had arrived at Foxborough for workouts. Moss, too, had been missing from the early part of the program.

While admitting Monday he would rather have had Brady present for the duration of the offseason workouts, Kraft told reporters his quarterback's absence last week was not a concern.

"If you're asking me if I'd prefer he be here the whole offseason, yes," Kraft said. "It represents ... to me, he's the most unique, special leader and player in the NFL . . .

"They are voluntary. He has a family. Everything -- look at your lives. You've all changed. So it's priorities.

"There is no doubt in my mind he's working out hard. Would we be better as a team if he was in Foxborough every day between now and the start of training camp? Absolutely. Does it work for him? I don't know. I think he's balancing a lot of things. I hope he spends as much time as he can in Foxborough and I believe he will."
