Mike Trout reaches 1,000 hits

Mike Trout entered Monday evening needing just one hit to reach 1,000 for his career. He ended the night with a few birthday memories.

Trout, who turned 26 on Monday, doubled off Baltimore Orioles pitcher Dylan Bundy in the fourth inning to get the hit. His last two milestone hits (first and 500th) were both infield singles.

He is the fourth player in major league history with 1,000 hits, 500 RBIs and 500 walks prior to his age-26 season (season age is determined by a player’s age on June 30), joining Mel Ott, Jimmie Foxx and Mickey Mantle.

Mike Trout is the third player to debut in the past 100 years and record a milestone hit on their birthday, according to Elias Sports Bureau research. He joins Charlie Moore (career hit 1,000 on his 33rd birthday, in 1986) and Hal Morris (1,000 on his 33rd birthday, in 1998) as the only players to do so.

But he didn't stop there. Trout then homered in the sixth inning, his fourth career homer on his birthday, and most by any player in MLB history at age 26.

Trout and Alex Rodriguez are the only players in MLB history to hit a homer on four different birthdays before turning 30. Rodriguez hit his fourth birthday home run at age 29.

Trout has an opportunity to add even more accolades to his already stellar career.

He needs 200 plate appearances in the next 49 games of the season to qualify for this year's batting title. Why is qualifying important for Trout?

After his home run on Monday, he is slugging .716 this season. If he maintains that pace, it would be the highest slugging percentage by a qualified player since Barry Bonds in 2004 (.812).
