Nick Mullens, Elijah McGuire's decorated careers come to an end

Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens and Louisiana Lafayette running back Elijah McGuire are two of the most accomplished players in the history of their respective schools. The two senior stars will meet in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday. UL Lafayette makes its fifth bowl appearance (all since 2011), while Southern Miss is in a bowl in back-to-back seasons for the first time since going to 10 straight bowls from 2002-11.

Mullens is Southern Miss' all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes. Even Golden Eagles' legend Brett Favre is behind Mullens in those categories. Mullens needs 22 attempts and 31 completions to set two more school records on Saturday.

McGuire is one of two players in school history to rush for over 4,000 yards in his career. Over the last 10 seasons, the only FBS players with more scrimmage yards than his 5,589 yards are Donnel Pumphrey (7,305), Montee Ball (5,738) and LaMichael James (5,668).

This will mark the first meeting between these schools since 2008, but Southern Miss had won eight straight and is 38-4-1 in the last 43 head-to-head contests. ESPN's Football Power Index gives the Golden Eagles a 62 percent chance to beat the Ragin' Cajuns again.
