Breaking down Weston Richburg's five-year contract with 49ers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has long put value on the center position, something made clear by the Atlanta Falcons' addition of Alex Mack in 2016 free agency.

On Wednesday, Shanahan got the guy he hopes helps stabilize his offensive line as Mack did in Atlanta: center Weston Richburg. Richburg signed a five-year, $47.5 million deal with $16.5 million fully guaranteed and another $12 million in injury guarantees. The deal includes a $9.3 million signing bonus with the rest of the full guarantees paid out in the first year.

Salary-cap charge: $9.26 million

Base salary: $3 million (fully guaranteed)

Signing bonus proration: $1.86 million

Roster bonus: $4.2 million (fully guaranteed, paid on fifth day of the new league year)

Per-game roster bonus: Up to $400,000 ($25,000 per game on the 46-man active roster. For cap purposes, only $100,000 counts against the 2018 cap as that accounts for the four games he played last year as likely to be earned.)

Workout bonus: $100,000

2019

Salary-cap charge: $7.86 million

Base salary: $5.5 million (guaranteed for injury, becomes fully guaranteed on April 1, 2019)

Signing bonus proration: $1.86 million

Per-game roster bonus: Up to $400,000 ($25,000 per game on the 46-man active roster.)
