SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Before the San Francisco 49ers signed that "other" former New England Patriot acquired midway through the 2017 season to a slightly larger contract last week, they inked another player fitting that description to a contract extension. Two days before signing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a five-year, $137.5 million deal, the Niners signed defensive end Cassius Marsh to a two-year, $7.7 million contract with $3.1 million guaranteed. The deal also includes escalators and incentives for playing time and sacks that could take it to a maximum value of $12.7 million. San Francisco acquired Marsh off waivers from New England on Nov. 22 and appeared in six games after his arrival. He had 10 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles in those six games. Here's a year-by-year breakdown of Marsh's contract with numbers courtesy of ESPN's Field Yates and ESPN Stats & Info: 2018 Salary cap number: $3.5 million Base salary: $1.1 million (guaranteed) Roster bonus: $2 million (guaranteed, to be paid on third day of the league year) Per-game roster bonus: $18,750 per game on 46-man roster Workout bonus: $100,000 Note: Can earn up to $1.875 million in incentives tied to playing time and sacks 2019 (team option -- must be exercised by end of 2018 league year) Salary cap number: $4.2 million Base salary: $3.8 million Per-game roster bonus: $18,750 per game on 46-man roster Workout bonus: $100,000 Note: Can earn up to $1.875 million tied to playing time and sacks.
