ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have secured land on a 55-acre parcel outside of Las Vegas on which to build their practice facility and headquarters before the team’s move to Nevada in 2020.

The Henderson City Council on Tuesday night unanimously approved the sale of the land, which is near the Henderson Executive Airport, about 12 miles southeast of where the domed stadium will go up, to the Raiders, with the transaction costing $6.05 million.

“The Raiders would like to thank Mayor (Debra) March, the Henderson City Council, City Manager Bob Murnane and City Attorney Josh Reid for welcoming the Silver and Black to this wonderful community,” Raiders president Marc Badain said in a statement. “This is the first step in creating a state-of-the-art permanent headquarters and practice facility in Henderson. We believe that it will continue to establish the organization as a strong business and community partner in Southern Nevada.”

Groundbreaking for the facility is expected to occur in April or May and, per the release announcing the agreement, is estimated to bring some 250 jobs for non-football players to the area and “lead to an investment of $75 million” in the land used by the Raiders, with “nearly $14 million in property taxes to be invested in public safety (and) education” in a 30-year period.

“This is a huge win for our community and we are so excited that the Raiders’ new home will be in Henderson,” March said in the release. “This is a partnership that’s going to contribute to Henderson’s recognition as a premier community with some of the best lifestyle and business offerings in the nation and will give a big boost to our city’s economic development efforts.”

The Raiders and UNLV will share a $1.9 billion domed stadium across Interstate 15 from the Mandalay Bay Resort on Russell Road, and the 65,000-seat stadium with natural grass is expected to bid on playing host to future Super Bowls.
